6 REASONS YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BOOK DIRECT
Firstly, I speak with a lot of guests who thought that they had booked direct when in fact they had actually booked via a third party website. This is quite common today. So before I share my 6 tips on why you should always book your direct with the Hotel, I thought I'd show you what our official, online booking engine looks like so you know that if it doesn't look like "Exhibit A" then it is not our direct site.
Exhibit A - www.tiffanyshotel.co.uk Direct Booking Engine
Exhibit B - a third party booking engine
Basically, if it isn't Pink...it isn't direct.
Now, on to the tips...
When the reservation relationship is between the guest and the hotel only, it’s clean and easy because there are only two parties involved: the customer and the business. When a third party (booking site) gets involved is when things can get messy. For example, sometimes reservations are not actually processed and the site and the hotel can pass the blame back and forth. This can potentially leave you with the wrong room or without a room at all, and there’s little hope for recourse.
2) Greatest Selection of Rooms
Sold out doesn't always mean the Hotel is full. Hotels want to keep their best rooms for their guests who book direct. So a hotel might, for example, only allow a third party to sell X amount of rooms and then display as sold out. Also, sometimes Hotels choose to "stop-selling" our rooms on third party sites for particular dates. So although it may show as sold out on a third party site you may find that the Hotels website still shows availability which can be booked either online or by telephone.
3) Prompt. Two-way. Unfiltered. Communication
Many third party booking sites now have heavy filters on the way in which we can communicate with you. This can lead to delays or worse, the failure of important communication. When you book direct, it allows us both to be able communicate much quicker.
4) Price Match
The big and probably only draw with booking through sites like Booking.com, Expedia & Laterooms is that they seem to turn up the lowest prices, even if it’s just by a few pounds. But what’s not yet common (enough) knowledge is that most hotels — especially chain hotels — will scramble to get your direct booking and match any price out there. All you have to do is present the cheaper price you found elsewhere for the same stay. We are very diligent with our pricing and use a system which allows us to keep rate parity accross all channels. Meaning we always offer the same rate to every thrid party site which we match onour own site. (
**Point 4) Bonus Tip - There may occasions where you'll find an even better price by calling us direct on 01253 313414.
5) More Choice - Best Value Packages only available direct
We only currently offer Bed & Breakfast rates on third party sites. Further more, this may soon change to room only. So yes, they - as well as our direct site and telephone - will still display our cheapest price which may soon be room only, but the only way to book the best value packages such as Dinner, bed & breakfast has been and always will be when you book direct here or via telephone on 01253 313414.
6) More Flexibility
When you book directly, hotels will often be more willing and able to help should you need to change your dates or even cancel, because they’re not bound by some third-party deal. Reserving a hotel room through a third-party site can essentially create and lock in a contract for a stay, which can limit wiggle room for the guest and hotel staff.
So remember, it's always better to book direct.
